Delmar Dental Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is of course concerned with fixing and restoring teeth but is more focused on the ultimate aesthetics. This dental procedure is specifically designed for people who want to improve the appearance of their smile and want to fix perceived blemishes. Some of the common problems that can be resolved with a cosmetic dentistry procedure include missing, misshapen, discolored and chipped teeth. Cosmetic dentistry isn’t just about a better looking smile but also resolves real dental problems such as offering a better bite.

Because of the aesthetic nature of this line of dentistry, it is paramount that you work with a dentist who is specifically trained and experienced in cosmetic dentistry. At Delmar Dental, we have AACD accredited dentists who are up to date with the latest cosmetic dentistry technology and products and are fully committed to restoring your smile. Below are some of the cosmetic procedures that we have to offer.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are some of the most common cosmetic dental procedures because of their aesthetics. Porcelain can be designed to closely resemble your existing set of teeth such that it is virtually impossible to tell an artificial tooth from the natural teeth.

Porcelain veneers are effective for treating a variety of cosmetic issues including missing teeth and poor tooth contour, shape or color. This procedure is also good for naturally filling gaps between teeth and for fixing fractured teeth.

One big advantage of dental veneer is its color is highly customizable to fit the natural teeth. As previously mentioned, it is virtually impossible to spot the veneer from natural teeth with professional cosmetic dental work. An additional advantage is some types of porcelain are stain resistant which means good news for smokers and coffee or tea enthusiasts.

Porcelain veneers is also a much less invasive dental process compared to crowning for example. There is only little alteration to your natural teeth to fit the veneer. This means less dental work and less discomfort.

Tooth Bonding

This procedure is also called dental bonding and is an essential part of cosmetic dentistry. For this procedure, a special resin that closely resembles the color of natural teeth is applied to the problem tooth. A special light is then used to harden the resin which is what is called bonding. This means that the resin is now fully attached to the tooth either to restore appearance or to fix a defect.

Tooth bonding is a useful procedure for a variety of dental problems including;

  • Gaps between teeth
  • Cavities and decayed teeth
  • Teeth which are shorter than normal
  • Discolored teeth
  • Cracked and chipped teeth
  • Tooth exposure from receding gum

Our cosmetic dentist can make the decision on whether bonding is a better option over crowning or veneer depending on your specific situation. One of the main advantages of dental bonding is it is among the cheapest cosmetic procedures you can find. It is also quick, usually performed in just one session unless there is extensive tooth damage or multiple teeth that need to be addressed. Finally, very little tooth enamel needs to be removed for this procedure, even less than is needed for successful veneer dental work. You may not even need anesthesia for simple bonding procedures.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is primarily concerned with improving the appearance of discolored or stained teeth. Delmer Dental recognizes that there are plenty of products on the market for teeth whitening including gels and toothpastes. We however believe that although these products might work, there is no substitute for cosmetic teeth whitening.

One major advantage of cosmetic whitening is it is thorough. Whitening strips and gels do not account of specific dental needs. A cosmetic dentist is able to assess the condition of your teeth where discoloration is concerned and apply the proper procedure needed to achieve satisfactory results. A cosmetic dentist is also able to achieve a level of uniformity that is almost impossible to get any other way.

Patients with intrinsic stains or severe discoloration may not benefit from teeth whitening products. This result is based on the fact that these products only contain a small amount of peroxide or whitening agent. At best, you can only hope for two shades whiter with over the counter products. Professional strength peroxide or whitening agents are only available to qualified dentists. At Delmar Dental, we have patients who have gotten up to ten shades whiter through our teeth whitening procedures.

Lastly, cosmetic dental teeth whitening is a quick procedure usually achieved in just one visit. These procedures usually take about an hour compared to the weeks or even months you might have to wait to get satisfactory results from teeth whitening products; and it is still not a guarantee that you will get the results you expected.

Full Mouth Restoration

Full mouth dental restoration is typically reserved for those with severe dental problems. The result is a visually appealing and natural looking smile. In addition to the cosmetic advantage, full mouth restoration can help to protect against oral infections and other problems caused by extensive tooth damage.
A full mouth restoration can benefit people with multiple missing or damaged teeth.

Delmer Dental does full mouth restoration on a patient-to-patient basis. Every patient has unique needs and depending on the cosmetic dentist’s assessment, the right procedure is performed to restore a beautiful and healthy smile. These restorative procedures may include dental bridges, dentures and/or implants.

Cosmetic Consultation

Finally, we offer cosmetic dental consultation to review your dental condition, listen to your concern and recommend the best course of cosmetic treatment based on your unique situation.

A standard consultation includes reviewing your dental history, taking x-rays, cleaning and performing a standard and painless dental exam. Our cosmetic dentist will then sit with you to discuss you oral health status and your goals and expectations. It may be helpful to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve from your cosmetic dental procedure. This helps to inform the dentist on the best procedure as and guide him in ultimately meeting your expectations.
Lastly, you should walk out of the consultation with our cosmetic dentist with a clear treatment plan. You are not obligated to begin treatment immediately, you can take your own time to think about the treatment plan and set up a date for the dental work to begin once you are ready.
